At our last general meeting before the summer, our speakers were Anthony Iuliano and Ken Lazar from the NYC Department of Buildings.
The main topics discussed were quality of life issues such as zoning controls, building codes and permits, parking and ilegal conversions.
Community Board 8 receives complaints from residents about constructionwhere no permits are posted at the site. Illegal conversions are at an increase, no more that three individuals can occupy a house for rent usually to college students. We can call 311 if we suspect that more than 3 persons unrelated are living at a location. Your complaint should include the correct address and 311 will pass this information to the proper elected official.
Every Tuesday afternoon, residents can meet with building departmentofficials who can answer questions you may have regarding all issues relating to violations, codes, surveys and general construction information. The meeting is held at Borough Hall at 145 Queens Boulevard in Kew Gardens between 3:30 and 5:30 PM.
All information about debris pickup or general sanitation should be forwarded to the Department of Sanitation or the Department of Health.
Construction can only be between the hours of 7AM to 6PM from Monday to Friday. Holidays from 10 AM to 4 PM and must be 300 feet from a House of Worship.

It was a very informative meeting and Mr. Iuliano and Mr. Lazar were mosthelpful in answering all questions from the audience.
